The Farkhanda Institute of Nursing, Peshawar offers an undergraduate course in nursing, designed to equip students with knowledge, skills, attitudes and behavior necessary to understand and influence factors that effect the health of individuals and of communities. The curriculum conform to the requirements of Pakistan Nursing Council. Academic Classes / Commencement of Classes After a successful completion of preparatory classes for three months, the candidates shall begin their official academic year one classes in October every year. CURRICULUMThe three-year diploma in nursing education at FIN-PH is based on the academic competency model. This curriculum will prepare nurses to use knowledge from sciences and art for making critical decisions and providing holistic care concerning the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of individuals, families and communities. Admission: The FIN-PH admits up to 50 students for diploma in Nursing and Public health programs annually from Pakistan and abroad. The admissions shall normally be advertised in June every year for the classes to begin in September. The admissions are based on merit and open to all eligible candidates with no discrimination towards their ethnicity, race, religion, or domicile. In order to make an application to FIN-PH a candidates must have passed FSc with minimum 50% or Matrix science with 55 % minimum score (only science groups) for diploma in Nursing program and FA / FSc for Public health program from a recognized Board of Intermediate Education in Pakistan. As per the requirements of the Pakistan Nursing Council, only female candidates are encouraged to apply for this diploma program. Application Procedure The Admission form is available at the Gandhara University web site www.gandhara.edu.pk or could be obtained from the Student support Team on personal request via e mail of by phone call. Prospectus can also be requested from the University main office. Entry Test and Interview All eligible applicants must appear for FIN-PH entry test and interview. The purpose of this test is to identify candidates’ ability to cope with the demanding FIN-PH studies and clinical requirements. It aims at assessing the applicant’s academic knowledge and interests. The test would normally include introductory questions on general sciences (chemistry, physics, biology mathematics and English ),the humanities, communication and analytical skills, and some general knowledge. The entry test policy and sample is available in the end of this Prospectus. Final Selection A merit-list alongside a waiting-list of the selected candidates shall be notified and displayed at the Students’ Affairs Office by the date announced for this purpose. No such correspondence shall be carried out to their home addresses; however, they could inquire about their result from the Students’ Affairs Office. Students shall be asked to complete the admission requirements on the due date. In case of any failure to respond by the given date or lack of interest the seat shall be allotted to the candidate appearing next on the waiting list. The candidates are required to note down the important dates in the admission form. Preparatory CourseAll selected candidates shall take the preparatory course work or orientation program This program aims at bringing together students from varied backgrounds to a common level of required knowledge base. The orientation program will be free and will take about three week, starting from the start of classes in September every year. This training will be in advance and in addition to the Diploma coursework. Post-preparatory Entry TestOn the completion of the orientation program a mandatory post-preparatory entry test must be cleared by all students to qualify for the Diploma coursework. Orientation program / Parents meeting It is mandatory for the students to accompany their parents (preferably the father, however the mother or a guardian could also be considered) at the time of their registration who would meet the faculty/staff at the Students Affairs Office. Such a meeting could also take place by the start of session in September every year, whereby the parents could see their children off and place any questions or concerns that they may have.
